Becoming Nonviolent Peacebuilders is a multi-day series of training workshops for students, faculty, staff, and broader community members to develop constructive nonviolent skills. These workshops are being offered in conjunction with the Catholic Nonviolent Initiative, a program of Pax Christi International, which is a global movement dedicated to promoting active nonviolence as a core principle of the Gospel. By fostering a culture of peace, justice, and reconciliation, these workshops strive to cultivate the skills necessary to heal and transform both human relationships and our planet. Topics to be explored throughout the trainings include: nonviolent communication, active bystander intervention, restorative justice, unarmed civilian defense, and developing strategic nonviolent campaigns.Ìý

In April 2023, Faith, Peace, and Justice Seniors gathered atÌýSeasons 52Ìýin Chestnut Hill for the Annual Faith, Peace, and Justice Senior Dinner. The seniors discussed their final projects and their plans for the future. The seniors were joined by Dr. Stephan Edwards and Dr. Meghan Sweeney, who directed sections of the Faith, Peace, and Justice Senior Seminar, as well as Dr. Joshua Snyder, Director of the Faith, Peace, and Justice minor.

Religion, Justice, and Reconciliation Summer Study Abroad Course in South Africa
In summer 2023, FPJ minors Julia Franco, Dilan Luhana, and Ashley Polimeno along with eight other ¶¶ÒõÊÓÆµ students joined Prof. Joshua Snyder forÌýReligion, Justice, and ReconciliationÌýin South Africa. This course was a philosophical and theological examination of how South African religious communities resisted racism and xenophobia and led national efforts at reconciliation in the decades after the apartheid era officially ended. Communita di Sant'Egidio International Meeting for Peace
In October 2025, ¶¶ÒõÊÓÆµ students Luke Colbeck, Elliot Jones, Caroline Serenyi, and FPJ minor Monica Barger traveled to Rome as student delegates to the annual Prayer for Peace organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio. They attended forums and discussed with world leaders on how to bridge divides in the face of conflict.

In September 2024, several students from Boston College, including FPJ minorsÌýJulia Franco and Nelson Teixeira da Pedra, traveled to Paris as student delegates to the annual Prayer for Peace organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio.ÌýJulia and Nelson encountered a sense of unconditional community care for topics related to justice and peace from religious leaders across the world. They attened conferences and were invited to meditate on ways to bridge community in the face of conflict and how to honor humanity.Ìý
War, Peace, and Reconciliation Study Abroad Course in Croatia
Every semester, the European Center for the Study of War and Peace partners with the OGE at ¶¶ÒõÊÓÆµ to educate a cohort of Boston College students on the Balkan Wars of the 1990s. While the Literature, Philosophy, History, Language, and Culture courses focus on the Balkan Wars, students gain an understanding of the history and politics of the region centuries before and decades after the war. Through immersion and experiential learning, students learn about concentration camps in Jasenovac, the Srebrenica Genocide, and the Siege of Sarajevo, among many other facets of the complex context.
